Well, considering the fact that they’re making our mounts able to swim under water next patch, I think the Maelstrom fits the boat. *shrug* Although it doesn’t still make much sense, but whatever. <.<
Yeah, I think they were experimenting with underwater stuff with some of the Wrath quests. Now swimming mounts? More and more signs point to the next expansion being the Maelstrom.
I found the following info from wowwiki. It defines the last four zones in the “Plane Set.” They are all part of the elemental plane of Warcraft. So I was wrong about them having to do anything with Deathwing or the Legion. They are litterally the homes of elementals.
“The Elemental Plane is a three-tiered realm, with layers much like an onion, surrounding the sun in the core of the planet. It would look like an ordinary spherical planet to an outsider — at least, when looked upon from above or on the ground. The realm of air (Skywall) floating above middle layer, which supports both the Water domain (Abyssal Maw) and the Earth (Deephome). Beneath this layer lies the third layer, the Firelands, it is the deepest and outer ring. From the inside out, the top layer is the domain of Air, the middle layer the domains of Water and Earth, and the lowest and outermost layer is the domain of Fire. It constantly struggles to break away from its bonds. A casual visitor, arriving on the surface, might even believe he is on an ordinary, if somewhat violent planet. At least, for a while.
The sphere itself is curved in a curious way that tends to baffle creatures of Azeroth’s reality. As befits the plane’s prison function, escaping through ordinary movement is impossible. A creature attempting to move out of the sphere simply curves inexorably around, moving toward the other side. Thus, if one were to sail across the ocean in a boat, he would eventually arrive on the exact opposite side of the plane’s sole continent. The land itself is slightly larger than Kalimdor, while the seas are about the same width in all directions.
The elemental forces do not tolerate each other, and each has its own dominion. In the air is the Skywall, home of Al’Akir the Windlord and his air elemental servants. Neptulon the Tidehunter controls the oceans and calls his realm the Abyssal Maw. The soil and stone of the plane’s single continent, and the ground beneath the sea, is Deephome, riddled with tunnels and under the rule of Therazane the Stonemother. Beneath Deephome and the Abyssal Maw are the Firelands, a realm of flame and lava. Ragnaros the Firelord once commanded this domain, but 300 years ago Dark Iron dwarves in the Redridge Mountains summoned him to battle their enemies. The catastrophic summoning blasted the land and immolated the Dark Irons, and Ragnaros sunk into the depths of Blackrock Spire to await his return.
There are also rumors that a forge similar to the Black Forge in Blackrock Mountain exists in the heart of the Elemental Plane, where dark iron is much more common. A journey to this site would not be for the faint of heart.”
This would imply that here you would fight Al’Akir, Neptulon, Therazane, and Ragnaros (this time at his full strength).

Interesting timeline, though. Thanks for sharing!
